In November last year we opened Croftmount Pet Resort and if you look at the brochure I am sure that you will agree we have created a new concept in kennelling.  The idea was born about 4 years when having dogs of our own we needed some kennels whilst we went on holiday. We looked all over at various kennels and generally speaking we were appalled at the squalid, noisy conditions of most. They tend to be fairly large scale operations in isolated areas with over 60 kennels,  built in concrete with mesh caging, they smelt and were very noisy which isn’t surprising when you consider how many dogs they were looking after.

We decided that we loved our dogs too much to put them in any kennels we had seen but it struck us that other people loved their dogs as much as us and were probably also put off by the kennelling care on offer. This is what we decided to do:-

1. Find a house with sufficient land to exercise our dogs on.
2. Build dog kennels to a very high specification so that they really are a home from home.
3. Only build a small number of kennels so that each guest is known by their name and that we know their individual likes and dislikes. Give them the same amount of love and care that we give our own dogs.
4. Ensure that our quality of accommodation and care is reflected in our pricing.

This may all sound relatively simple but we have found that there is a niche market where people are willing to pay more for the high quality of care that we give. If we have found that in this area we feel that there is likely to be a market in other areas.

When we took the plunge and bought the 12 ½ acre farm in March, 2004 we took on a huge mortgage and then went and borrowed more money to create the kennels. We were not rich people but we weren’t frightened of hard work and love working with dogs. Croftmount is set in a beautiful location and we are very busy. 

Having now given you the idea of setting up your own luxury dog kennels you are bound to be wondering why take on a franchise of Croftmount? Why not come and look at Croftmount and then go and find a place to open your own?  The answer is simple – we have already made some very costly mistakes which if we were to set up again we would not make – we can save you a lot of money. Also we have gained a tremendous amount of expertise in:

• Location and planning permission for the kennels
• Size, design and materials for them
• Budgeting, costing and suppliers
• Marketing and marketing literature
• Standards, routines and procedures

The list goes on but Croftmount is known for extremely high quality of care and because of this we are fully booked all the time and are unable to satisfy the demand for our Pet Resort. We do not want to extend our facilities as that would detract from the type of individual care we offer but we would like to see our idea grow in other areas and dogs being looked after to the same high standard.

When other Croftmount Resorts open then when one can’t take a booking it can refer that booking to another (We wish there was one near us). Also all the customers are on a data base which enables details of new resorts and facilities to be forwarded to them.

We are opening a dog grooming room and we are selling posh dog products. These products have been sourced from manufacturers around the world and quite simple are not available at your local pet shops. Your Croftmount Pet Resort could also market these products!
